My whole family loves it January 1, 2010 Vanessa Abernathy (Chicago IL) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
This is the Disney World book I buy every year. It helps you plan what to see so much better than the other guides, and has a lot of unique insight. Even if you also have another guidebook, this one is worth the money.
This 2010 edition is larger than past Complete Guides, and has way more photos. The hotels chapter is a lot bigger, with a good assortment of pix for each Disney Resort. I especially liked that this chapter has room photos. My husband, son and I will be staying at the Caribbean Beach Resort when we head down in February because of this book's photos showing the rooms there. My son insists on a pirate room!
My other favorite sections are the theme park chapters. At the beginning of each one is an At-A-Glance part that lets you scan each of the attractions, with ratings, how scary the ride is and so forth. Then there is a list of where to find each of the characters (my son was thrilled to see that you can meet Sulley from Pixar's Monsters, Inc). And these tables that show hour-by-hour average wait times are so useful. Why wait in line? Knowing this stuff BEFORE you get to Disney makes so much sense.
I have every edition of the Complete Guide going back to 2006. This one has lots of improvements, so is absolutely the best one yet. It is the Disney book to buy!
I also must compliment Amazon's service. I preordered this book a few weeks ago and paid for regular shipping. Then I got it the day the book came out! Can't beat that!
The best of the Disney World guides - bar none! February 8, 2010 M. E. Rich (Seattle, Washington) 10 out of 12 found this review helpful
I grew up in Orlando and was a Disney Cast Member for more than two years, so I know Disney, and I've read every guide book there is. I can tell you that this is by far the best book out there for planning a trip to WDW, whether you are a first timer, a family, or traveling with a flock of teenagers.
This book is brilliantly illustrated with photographs of nearly every attraction. The authors have thought of every key detail needed to create an easy to use guide book. Color coded borders at the top of every page make finding the section you're looking for simple. The book itself isn't too bulky and will easily stash away in any backpack. Average wait times are listed for every attraction, by the hour.
The reviews are honestly written (Country Bear Jamboree is "way past its prime"), comprehensive, and packed with trivia. I was blown away with the number of "fun facts" that I didn't even know. Hidden Mickeys are detailed throughout the book as well.
If there's any point of criticism, it's that the book occasionally reveals its authors' ages. Two full pages are devoted to the Hall of Presidents, the stereotypical Disney snooze fest. The movie in Epcot's France Pavilion gets four stars - I challenge you to find anyone under the age of 30 who would agree. But these are the most minor of infractions.
Every Disney World visitor who reads this book cover to cover will have a fantastic trip!
Outstanding guidebook for the whole family January 7, 2010 Kevin Gallagher 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
You know what's great about this book? It gets the whole family engaged in planning a trip to Disney. It is so easy to flip through, and has such smartly organized pages, that my wife (the real planner in the family), me (the fun lovin' husband), our 5 year-old daughter (all princess all the time), our 9-year-old daughter (animal freak) and even our 11-year-old boy (coaster maniac) all spend a lot of time with it. We are headed there in April and this book is making it fun and easy to plan a good time for all. A++.
Lots to like January 7, 2010 Cathie Smith (Kansas City) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
There is a lot to like about this Disney guide. Here is a list of what i like the best:
1. The authors provide a "Fear Factor" for each ride for children. Parents should buy this book for this reason alone. Knowing which rides are scary, and exactly how they are scary, will go a long way in keeping your kids happy and smiling all day.
2. There are many great tips in the book about how to plan a day at a theme park. Not just touring plans, though it has those too, but how to best enjoy each ride or show and the wait times for each one. The attractions are rated too, which I found pretty much in line with what I thought as we went through our day.
3. The chapters are color-coded with a bar that runs along the top of each page, and everything is clearly organized within each chapter. In other words, you can flip through it and find whatever you want almost instantly.
4. The color photos. These provide a lot of information about the resorts and the various attractions and things to do. They also make the book fun to browse through even when you are not doing any "serious" planning.
5. The size of the book. It's the size of a Frommers or Fodors, so like those you can easily carry it with you as you explore Disney World.
6. In this new edition, I really like the new shopping pages. They show cool souvenirs you can buy, and not just the most expensive things.
Best Disney guide book January 1, 2010 Shawn Murray (MN) 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
Couldn't like this more! This is my favorite Disney World guidebook, and I have over a dozen. It is the only one that has any photos to speak of, and it has a lot of helpful facts, detail and trivia that other books also lack. It really helps you have a good Disney vacation, and gives you a sense of the magical time you can have there with this type of advance information. It is well written, not dry, not fluffy, just clear and to the point. I especially like the additions in this new version, such as the photos of the Disney resort hotels.
